Will Summary (published 1964)
Ann R. Cubbedge of Liberty County. Last Will and Testament dated October 3, 1817, probated January 5, 1818. Devises to her nephews, John and George Cubbedge and her niece, Elizabeth Austin, $2000.00 due testatrix by a note given her by James Holmes dated February 10, 1818, due February 10, 1819. She gives two slaves to the children of her nephew John Cubbedge. Two slaves to be sold and proceeds given to Sunbury Baptist Church. Directs that her faithful servant Phyllis and her children be freed from slavery and be paid $50.00. Directs her two lots in Sunbury be sold and proceeds be paid $50 to her aged friend Hannah Peacock and $50 each to her friends Ann Somersall and Ryal Butler. Executors: Nephew, John Cubbedge, and friend Samuel S. Law. Witnesses: William Ward, John Dunwoody, J.I.C.

“Phebe [alt: Phoebe] and her child Sarah, I desire to be sold to Saml [Samuel] S. Law at such valuation as may be thought proper by one of more persons chosen for that purpose. The amount of purchase money I give to be appropriated to the use of the Sunbury Baptist Church, which sum is to bear interest from the sale of Phebe and her child, but not considered payable before January 1819.”
“I desire that my faithful and trusty servant woman, Phillis [alt: Phyllis], may reside on Mr. Holmes’ plantation with her children, free from servitude; and that fifty dollars be deposited in the hands of Mr. Saml [Samuel] S. Law, arising from the sale of such property as shall hereafter be mentioned, for her use.”
