Enslaved Persons Named: Prince, Goliah, Cate, Rose, Georgian, Grace, Patsey, Logan, Macy [or Mary]
On March 9, 1843, Elizabeth S. McKinne and Henry M. Stevens, both of Liberty County, entered into a marriage contract with Peter W. Fleming, Joseph Law, and Josiah S. Law, also of Liberty County, as her trustees. The contract put into trust for her property she possessed in her own right, “all the following negro slaves (to wit) Prince, Goliah, Cate, Rose, Georgian, Grace, Patsey, Logan & Macy.” Witnessed by C.S. Mallard, S.M. Varnedoe. Recorded on November 10, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk.
[NOTE: The names of the enslaved people, except for Macy [which may actually be Mary], occur in her father Samuel S. Law’s estate inventory, so were presumably in inherited from him.]
