James A. Cole, planter, of Liberty County. Last Will and Testament dated December 19, 1794; probated December 29, 1794. Gives to his brother John Cole; to brother-in-law, Peter Colman, and to “my beloved sister Rhody Cole” when of age. Also gives to sister Harriet Colman, and to Mrs. Ann Dunham and son-in-law, William Way. Witnesses: James Wood, Charles Dunham, Mary E. Cooper. Probated on oath of Charles Dunham.
Slave names left out of the original summary:
To brother John Cole: “three Negroes, namely Chessor [or ? Chessos], Hester, and Ginney to him and his heirs forever…”
To brother-in-law Peter Coleman [note the “e”]: “one Negro boy named Chessor, to him and his heirs forever.” [NOTE: Name is the same in both places.]
To ?niece? [definitely not sister] Rody Cole: “three Negroes namely, Rachel, Saul, and Eady, provided she has lawfull issue or arrives to the years of twenty one, if not, it tis will and desire that the three above named Negroes should go to my beloved sister Harriet Colman [no “e” here] and the three above Negroes to be lodged in the hands of my executors for the above purpose.”
