On February 1, 1847, James Johnson, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note to Dr. Charles W. Rogers, Bryan County, for $288 “a certain female slave named Rose aged ten years, a certain female slave named Abby aged nineteen years and her child Peter aged fourteen months, a stock of cattle consisting of fifty head more or less, also three hundred and forty acres of land more or less, being one half of all that tract or parcel of land called Oakland, situate lying and being in the said State and County.” Witnessed by John M Eigle. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on February 5, 1847.

This mortgage was marked as satisfied as of November 24, 1849.
