On March 25, 1839, Lewis Hines, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1000 to the Central [Bank] of Georgia endorsed by Elias Perry and George C. Linder, same place, “the following named negro slaves, Lisset and her children Jane, Stephen, Levina, Washington, Dublin and Peter.” The enslaved people were mortgaged to Perry and Linder to spare them the risk of being endorsers. Witnessed by Isaac Perry. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on May 3, 1839.
