On March 10, 1836, Bryan M. Morel, planter of Chatham County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $8000 to William Patterson, merchant of Savannah and executor of the will of John David Mongin “the following negro slaves to wit, Marcus, Betty, Jinny, Alick [alt: Alleck], Daphne, Sally, Hazzard, Patty, Margaret, and her infant, Billy, Binah [or Dinah], Tira [alt: Tyra], Silvey, Bella, Jim, Dick, Fanny, Minty, Leah, Maria and Robert.” Also used as collateral was a 1000-acre plantation on the north end of Ossabaw Island, in Bryan County, Georgia, bounded on the north and north east by the Great Ogechee [alt: Ogeechee] River, south by lands of Patrick Houston, east by the Atlanta Ocean and west by the Great Ogechee River’s marshes. Witnessed by G.B. Lamar. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on July 1, 1836.
