Enslaved Persons Named: Myrtiller
On June 4, 1787, Philip Andrew Noble Delegal, planter of Liberty County, manumitted Myrtiller [alt: Myrtilla], “a negroe woman” after she paid him 60 pounds sterling. He affirmed, “I do hereby declare that the said Myrtiller is and shall be free from the day of the Date hereof.” Witnessed by Thomas Harris, James Phelps, John Harris. James Phelps appeared before a Justice of the Peace on February 20, 1790, to swear that he had seen Philip Andrew Noble Delegal sign the above deed in the presence of Thomas Harris and John Harris. Included was a note from the Clerk’s Office of Chatham County to say that this had been recorded in Book H, folios 183 and 184. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 3, 1791.
