On July 16, 1856, Edward M. Bayly [alt: Baily], Bryan County, satisfied his $2500 debt to the estate of John Bayly, late of Bryan County, by turning over the following to Elizabeth Bayly, administrator of the estate: the land known as the old Court House, a “tract of land near the dividing line between the counties of Liberty & Bryan on or near the Road leading to Canouchee known as the Hen Cart Road; and also four negro slaves, and the interest of the said Edward M. Bayly in said Estate being and undivided third part.” Witnessed by Wm. [William] Law. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on November 10, 1856. [NOTE: Unfortunately, the enslaved people were not listed by name.]
