On November 16, 1854, Isaac Lightsey and Caroline Barber, both of Bryan County, entered into a marriage contract with William Blitch, same place, as her trustee. Put into trust for her were a tract of land in Bryan County and “her share or part of Negroes” or any personal property or real estate she was in possession of at the time of the marriage or that she should come to possess afterward. This property could be used by Isaac Lightsey for her benefit, but she was to have the right to sell or bequeath it/them to anyone she chose. [NOTE: No enslaved people were named in this document.] Witnessed by James ?Shuman ?, Thos. [Thomas] F. Alexander. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 9, 1855.
