On April 24, 1854, John P. Hines, Bryan County, used as collateral on three promissory notes to Wm. Crabtree, merchant, Savannah, Chatham County, for $1050 each “the following named negro slaves to wit William aged about twenty four years Bella aged about thirty years Peggy aged about eight years Sarah aged about five years Richard aged about thirty years Nancy aged about thirty years Edward aged about two years Caroline aged about four years Osborne aged about three years Lizzy aged about one year Julia and infant Peggy aged about forty five years Nelly aged about twenty years Daphney aged about twenty five years Smart aged about twenty four years ? Fortimer ? aged about fifty years Tom aged about eighteen years Henry aged about sixteen years Joe aged about twelve years ? Sarah ? aged about twenty five years Betty [or Bettsy] aged about four years, Tyra [alt: Tira] aged about twenty two years Sally aged about one year ? Minder ?
