Enslaved People Named: Jane

On August 1, 1854, Isaac Perry, Bryan County, and Little Berry [alt: Littleberry] Daniel and Nicholas J. Clark, Liberty County, as administrators of the estate of Elias Perry, late of Bryan County, sold at public auction to John P. Hines for $455.50 “the following Negro woman – Jane aged about thirty three years of dark complexion belonging to the estate of the late Elias Perry which said negro woman were sold for a division amongst the heirs of said estate of said Elias Perry.” The auction had been advertised in the newspaper as required by law.

Immediately following this record was one in which John P. Hines sold Jane back to Isaac Perry for $450 on the same day.
