On March 7, 1855, “a certain negro woman slave named Susan…aged about eighteen years” was put up for auction at the Chatham County Courthouse and sold to Richard Clark of Bryan County for $745. Philologus H. Lond and Sarah E. Lond, his wife, had requested that their trustee Cail Epping sell Susan from the trust. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on April 28, 1855.
