On October 3, 1853, Joshua Smith, Bryan County gifted to Alfred Bird Smith and Albert Glenn Smith, his sons, same place, “the following negro slaves to wit Orilla [or Osilla] a negro woman aged twenty seven years and her three children viz Godfrey, Jasper and Cyer and a negro woman Hannah aged twenty one years and her child Ella to be equally and equitably divided between them.” He also gave his son Alfred B. Smith “a certain negro boy named Milton, aged thirteen years, and to his son Albert G. Smith “a certain negro man named Henry, aged twenty three years and a certain negro boy named Rufus aged twelve years next December, my son Alfred having heretofore received from me a negro man Robert.” Witnessed by E.A. Elarbee, ?ara Haney.
On January 7, 1854, Albert G. Smith then sold to his brother Alfred B. Smith “one half of my interest in negro man Henry described in the above transfer.” Witnessed by F.S. Williams.
