Enslaved People Named: Sally, Luke

On March 27, 1854, Phereby Shuman, Bryan County gifted to Wm. H. Shuman, son of Phereby Shuman, same place “the following slaves viz a negro woman by the name of Sally about thirty yeras of age of black complection [SIC] with the future issue also her son named Luke about three or four years of age. Phereby Shuman reserved for herself the right to keep and control these enslaved people for her own use during her natural life.” Witnessed by William R. Lewis. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on April 4, 1854.
