On January 15, 1841, James S. Wilkins, Liberty County, and Mary Jane Demere, Bryan County, entered into a marriage settlement, with Raymond P. Demere of Bryan County being her trustee. Because Mary Jane was “intitled and interested in a considerable Estate both real and personal and may at some future period become possessed of entitled to or interested in some other estate both real and personal,” it was agreed between them and James S. Wilkins would have no right to any part of the estate that she might have at the time of the marriage or become possessed of later. No property was described as it did not appear that she yet had any. Witnessed by Susan J. Demere, Morris M. Demere, F.H. Demere. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on November 18, 1848.
