On December 31, 1850, Charles W. Rogers, executor of the last will and testament of the late Dr. Charles W. Rogers, deceased, Bryan County, sold to William M. Also sold were tracts of land in Bryan County said to have been formerly the property of the late John H Morel:
- the Cottenham Plantation, 887 acres, bounded north by Redbud Creek, east by Bear River, south by lands of Wylly or Woodbridge and west by lands of Redbud plantation; [NOTE: Cottenham Plantation was previously owned by Charles W. Rogers]
*Troup Plantation, 2500 acres, bounded north by Ogeechee River, east by lands of Houston now W M Rogers, south by lands of Cubbedge and west by lands of (formerly) Savage);
*Holmes or Redbud, 1100 acres, bounded north by Redbud Creek, east by lands of Cottonham plantation, south by lands of Cubbedge and Wylly and est by lands of Houston now W M Rogers
Plus one half of a tract of land called Stone Vale, known as division number 1 of the Stone Vale tract, 354 1/2 acres, conveyed by Peter Henry Morel to Robert J. Houston, Boundaries were shown on a plat or resurvey signed and certified by John G. Underwood, surveyor.
Witnessed by S.S. Hart, G.R. Johnson. Probated by Smith S. Hart on January 3, 1851. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 4, 1851.
NOTE: Rogers was also spelled Rodgers in this document.
On page 245 of the same deed book was recorded the following:
“Mr. Joshua Smith
Dear Sir, you have on record in your office, as Clerk of Supr [Superior] Court of Bryan County, a mortgage on the Cottenham Plantation & Negroes, the property of David M. Rogers, Rev’d C.W. Rogers executor of Est. Of Dr. C.W. Rogers, having given said mortgage as Executor of said estate, this is to notify you that said debt, for which said mortgage was given, has been paid & said mortgage of no effect any longer.
W.M. Rogers this day the 5th July 1851
Mr. Smith, Dear Sir, be so good as to enter satisfaction on the mortgage by recording the above letter to you.
