On December 4, 1851, Thomas Harn, Bryan County, sold to Levi S. D’Lyon, trustee of Edith Rebecca Clark, wife of William Clark, Bryan County, for $550 “”to the sole and separate use of the said Edith Rebecca Clark, and to such child or children, as she may leave at the time of her death, a certain negro man slave named Backsheer [alt: Buckshire] aged about twelve years, and upon the further trust of the said Edith Rebecca Clark, shall leave neither child or children at the time of her death, that the said negro man slave shall become the property of such of the children of John Harn Sen’r as may then be living share and share alike.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on December 16, 1851.
