Whereas Mary Clay, late of Bryan County, in the State of Georgia, widow, deceased, did, in her life time, give to her daughter Eliza C. Clay of said Bryan County, singlewoman, certain slaves, but executed no titles thereto to said Eliza C. And whereas the said Mary did die, without any last will and testament, leaving Mary Gray of Boston in the County of Suffolk, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, widow, Thomas S. Clay, of said Bryan County, planter, and the said Eliza C. Clay, her children and heirs at law, and whereas the said Mary and Thomas S. are desirous that the said gift to said Eliza C. should take effect. Now know all men by these presents, that we the said Mary Gray and Thomas S. Clay, in consideration of the premises, and of one dollar to each of us paid by the said Eliza C. Clay, do hereby grant, release, and convey unto the said Eliza C. Clay, all our respective right, title and interest in and to the following slaves, all in said State of Georgia, to wit Hagar, and Phoebe and Tranquilla, children of said Hagar, Sally, and Maria, Ann, Limus, Alick [alt: Ellick, Allick], Juno, and Daniel, children of said Sally, with all the increase of the females above mentioned. To have and to hold said property, to the said Eliza C. Clay, her heirs and assigns, to her and their own proper use, benefit and behoof forever, in so far as we have any claim thereto, it being expressly declared, that we merely convey and release our right and interest thereto, without assuming any liability whatever.
In testimony whereof, the said Mary Gray, and the said Thomas S. Clay have hereunto set their hands and seals, this twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and forty five.
