On February 11, 1852, Benjamin T. Hines used as collateral on a promissory note of $1000 “the following property to wit Sulphur, a negro man about 35 years of age, Charlotte a negro woman about 40 years of age, John about 17 years of age, Ferdy aged two years.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on April 29, 1852. [NOTE: Record found in loose papers of Liberty County pertaining to Charlton Hines.]
