On April 23, 1833, William H. Cuyler, doctor of medicine of Savannah, used as collateral on a promissory note of $4500 to Richard N Cuyler, attorney at law of Savannah, “the following negro slaves to wit, Lucy, Hagar, Pussy, Isaac, Peggy, Fanny, Alexander, Augustus & Hester,” in addition to a 500-acre tract of land on the south end of Ossabaw Island, “adjoining lands late Rutherford now Shrines and lands late John Morel now said William H Cuyler’s.”

On the same day, Richard N Cuyler signed over his interest in this promissory note and the property used as collateral to the Bank of the State of Georgia.

Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on August 9, 1833.
