On January 4, 1833, John Bradley and his wife Jane Bradley, Liberty County, sold to James N Bird, Bryan County, for $350 “a certain negro slave named Dick about twelve years of age.” Witnessed by Enoch Daniel, Joseph G [or J] Smith. Smith probated the signatures on February 18, 1833. [NOTE: John Bradley signed “by mark,” indicating illiteracy. Jane Bradley did not.] Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on February 18, 1833.
