The State vs George Broxson } Indictment for [stealing crossed out] inveighling [sic] a negro slave [NOTE: word normally spelled “inveigling” – i.e., kidnapping by persuasion rather than by force]

The prisoner was brought to the Bar, arraigned & plead [sic] not guilty.

The following jury sworn viz’t 1> John Stewart 2. William Wilson 3. Jedediah Field 4. John Sommersal 5. James Sandiford 6. John Way Junr 7. Uriah Wilcox 8. John McGowen 9. John Ashmore 10, John Fulton 11. Cornelius Williams 12. William Maxwell.

Witnesses sworn: 1. David G. Holmes, 2. John Fulton, 3. Step’n Denmark, 4. Jesse Forrester

Verdict: We find the prisoner guilty & recommend him to the mercy of the Executive.

It is considered by the Court that the prisoner George Broxson, be taken from hence to the Common Jail, of the County of Chatham, there to be and remain untill Thursday the Twelfth day of December next. That the said George Broxson be on that day taken from thence by the Sheriff of the County of Liberty, and be by him conducted to the place of public Execution in the said County of Liberty, and then and there between the hours of ten & two o’clock, on Friday the thirteenth day of December next, that he the said George Broxson be hung by the nect untill he is dead.
