Enslaved People Named: Charles

On March 23, 1796, in McIntosh County, Thomas Stone warranted that he had received “five shillings stg [sterling] money of State of Georgia” from Henry Dassex Stone “for a negro named Charles abt eighteen years of age born & bred in my family & my absolute property & no other.” Witnessed by Moses Young. 

Appended to the deed was a statement dated May 11, 1796, by J.D. Stone that he had received two hundred dollars from Joel Walker “in full payment for the within named Negroe Charles.” Witnessed by Joseph Jones. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 14, 1797.
