Enslaved People Named: Old Cain, Brutus, Toney

On January 18, 1821, C.C. Cooper acknowledged receipt from William Anderson, executor of his father Richard Cooper’s estate, “all the real & personal property, as coming to me as one of the heirs of the estate… to wit, three negroes named Old Cain, Brutus and Toney, and the half of two tracts of land, one of which lies in Liberty County, and the other in McIntosh County.” Witnessed by Jos. [Joseph] Jones, John F. Williams. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 19, 1821.
