On March 23, 1819, William Tanner, Liberty County, gifted to his son William James Tanner, “my two negro slaves, viz. Tom, a man, and Burley, a woman, together with the increase of the woman Burley.” Witnessed by Lewis Hines, Jas. [James] E. Hines. Also witnessed by Peter J. Goulding, “J.P.B.C.” [probably Justice of the Peace of Bryan County.] Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 9, 1819.
