Enslaved People Named: Hagar

On March 31, 1818, Benjamin Mell Junior, planter of Liberty County, sold to Mrs. Elizabeth Foster, wife of William Foster of Liberty County, for $700 “a certain negro woman slave named Hagar.”  Mell noted that this was per the stipulations of the marriage contract between William and Elizabeth Foster, who had been Elizabeth Anderson before her marriage. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 15, 1818.
