Enslaved People Named: Cyrus, Sharper, Sambo, Jack, Laura, Blindy, Bowson

On February 2, 1816, Dorothy Vanyeveren, widow of Liberty County, agreed to hire to Jedidiah Field “the following seven negroes, to wit, Cyrus, Sharper, Sambo, Jack, Laura, with her child Blindy, and old Bowson, until the death of either party,” for $225 a year to be paid annually. Field agreed to “feed and clothe the said negroes, and to pay all physicians’ bills, or charges for attendance on, and medicine administered to, them.” This lease was to start February 1, 1816, as Field had already taken possession of them. Witnessed by John Kell, John Stevens. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 16, 1816.
