On June 2, 1795, Ann Oswald used as collateral on a promissory note of $307 pounds to Joseph Clay and Joseph Habersham, surviving copartners of William Fox and Company, “the following Negroes viz. Toney [alt: Tony], Susan, Dinah, Lucy and child Smart, Jane and her children, Phillis [alt: Phyllis], Molly Will…” Witnessed by Henry Wood, Nathaniel Bacon. Probated by James Powell, saying he was familiar with the handwriting of Wood and Bacon, on November 26, 2806.
