Enslaved People Named: None

On January 28, 1808, arbitrators appointed by Jesse Cooper, who had married the widow of the late John R. Wooderson, and William H. Compton, the administrator of Wooderson’s estate, made a final settlement of the claims by Cooper to the estate. The arbitrators awarded to Cooper all the property mentioned in Ann Wooderson’s last will as having been lent to her son John R. Wooderson. However, “the Negroes belonging to Mrs. Wooderson previous to her marriage with Wooderson” were to be equally divided between Jesse Cooper and William H. Compton, the estate administrator. A sum of $89.64 owed to the estate was to be divided between Cooper and Compton when it was recovered. The arbitrators were identified as Jos. [Joseph] Jones, Jas. [James] Smith, E. Baker, J. Elliott, D. Stewart. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 2, 1808.
