Representatives of Samuel Miller, deceased, and Amelia Burford, widow of Richard Burford, agreed to arbitration to settle a dispute as to the “right of property in certain negroes as follows viz Violet & Jem in possession of A. Burford & Hester, Hercules, Syke, Rosetta, Mary, little Violet, Paul & Statira [sic, Satira] in possession of Venables Bond.” Samuel P. Bayley, acting for Amelia Burford, and William Davies, acting for the representatives of Samuel Miller, were to hear the testimony of Thomas Young, then make a decision. If they could not agree, they were to call in George Woodruff, a Savannah attorney, as an umpire whose decision would be final. The document was signed by Amelia Burford [by mark], Richard Fielder, Elias Warren, and Ven Bond. William Davies and Samuel P. Bayley signed an oath to act as arbiters on April 20, 1802. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 23, 1802.
