Marriage Contract (Bird/Elliott)

Enslaved Persons Named: George, Tom, Toby, Harry, Scipio, Harry, Fanny, Priscilla

On March 30, 1786, Samuel Bird and Ann Elliott, relict and widow of Thomas Elliott of Georgia, entered into a marriage contract. William Jeans Baker and Artemas Baker were her trustees. Put into trust for her were “Eight Negroes or slaves viz. George, Tom, Toby, Harry, Scipio, Harry, Fanny and Priscilla with all their issue and increase.” Also included was “whatever Estate Real or personal shall or may hereafter come, be given or fall unto the said Ann Elliott by Will or Gift or heirship by Law.” Inheritance conditions were laid out. Witnessed by John Baker, Josiah Maxwell, Joel Walker. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on August 3, 1787.
