On April 13, 1831, Sarah Miller, spinster of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $257.90 to Uriah Wilcox, trader of Liberty County, “two certain male slaves, named Frank & Jim, & a certain female slave named Bess.” Witnessed by John Girardeau. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 15, 1831. [NOTE: This mortgage was marked as satisfied in full per Oliver Stevens, administrator of the estate of Uriah Wilcox, as of August 13, 1838. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on August 23, 1838.]
