On March 5, 1829, J.D. Hathaway, attorney in fact for Furman R. Whitwell reported that a mortgage of “four slaves,” recorded in Book I, page 232, had been satisfied. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 5, 1829. [NOTE: No names of enslaved people were given in this deed, but the names of Goliah, Peggy, Joe, and Nancy are recorded here from the earlier mortgage, made by Samuel S. Law, on page 232.]
