On January 15, 1828, Josiah Wilson, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2200 to William Davies, of Savannah,  “the following named negroes, to wit, Bella, Sue, Dinah, Cato, Brister, Brutus, Diana, Little Diana, Little Peggy, Hetty, Cuffy, Toby, Toney, Leah, Hannah and Cinda [alt: Cinder].” Also mortgaged was a 600-acre tract of land where Josiah WIlson lived, on the North Newport river, bounded west by land belonging to Jedidiah Field, south and southeast by Joseph Austin’s land. Davies had co-signed a note for Josiah Wilson to the Planters Bank of the State of Georgia, and this mortgage was meant to secure him against loss. Witnessed by John F. Webb, P.D. Hathaway. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 8, 1828.
