On February 15, 1828, Anne Powell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $8000 to Joseph Cumming and Jacob P. Henry, “the following named negro slaves, fifty one in number, to wit, Jack, Jenny, Billy, a carpenter, Ned, a carpenter, Lucy, Phoebe, Harry, Billy, Elsey, Stephen, John, Hagar, Binah, James, Mary Ann, Sue, Patty, Sandy, Bob, Charlotte, Betty, Affy, Peter, Old Will, Peggy, Hester, Jenny, Delia, Will, William, Charlotte, Hannah, Nanny, Rose, Edmund, Rosan [alt: Roseanne], Ben, Stephen, Peter, September, Tom, Israel, Mary, John, Doll, Hector, Alfred, Charissa, Sam, Mary and Tenah.” Witnessed by Wm. [William] H. Coe. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 20, 1828. [NOTE: This mortgage was marked as satisfied as of May 22, 1835. Satisfaction was recorded on Mary 25, 1835. 

[NOTE: In a separate deed just prior to this one, Anne Powell mortgaged to Joseph Cumming and Jacob P. Henry, of Chatham County, a plantation called Cedar Hill containing 955 acres, bounded on the north by land owned originally by William Clifton, on the south by land belonging to John Way and “persons unknown,” on the east by land belonging to William Robarts and Morgana Mara, formerly John Jones’s land, and on the west by land belonging to Henry Wood, per a resurvey of the plantation made by Robert Hendry Junior in March 1827.
