On April 30, 1828, James S. Bulloch of Savannah and John Dunwody, Liberty County, doing business as Bulloch & Dunwody, used as collateral on a promissory note of $17559 to Joseph Cumming, merchant of Savannah, John Dunwody’s property, described as “the following negro slaves, to wit, Jack, driver, Lily, Hannah, Jack, ostler, Dinah, Will, Abram, Isaac house servant, Louisa, Creamer, Patty, Joe, Maria, Battice, Bess, Peggy, Emilia, Diana, Sarah, Nancy, Doll, Flora, Peter, Prince, Sandy, Frank, Lily, Daphne, Bella, Letty, Esther, Lounver, Peter, August, Frederick, Dick, Diana, washer & ironer, Caty, Pheraby, Violet, Dick, Fortune, Castilio, Canda, Abram, a cooper, Nelly, Tom, Rose, Molly, Phillis, Stephen, a carpenter, Old Phoebe, Young Phoebe, Judy, Hannah, Isaac, Dinah, Lucy, Lucinda, Ishmael and Tom….” Also used as collateral was the Arcadia plantation, 1700 acres, in Liberty County, bounded on the north by J.S. Quarterman’s land and land owned by Andrew Maybank; east by A. Maybank’s land and land owned by William P. Girardeau; south A. Maybank’s land and land owned by the estate of William J. Baker and James James; west by land belonging to the estate of John E. Fraser. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 29, 1828.
