On August 7, 1827, due to court judgments against P.F. Winn in favor of various of his creditors, the Liberty County Sheriff, William Maxwell, seized and sold at auction at the Liberty County courthouse at Riceborough “fifteen certain negro slaves; viz, Charlotte, Harriet, Abby, Lewis, David, Tenah, Peggy, Elizabeth, Nancy, Frank, Pender, Bristol, Bob, Toney and George, the property of the said P.F. Winn.” Joseph Austin was the highest bidder at $3300, and Maxwell sold them to him on January 7, 1828. The creditors involved in obtaining judgments against P.F. Winn were William Robarts, Wm. [William] and J.O. Baker, B. Mell Jun., F.R. Whitwell, James S. Bulloch, Uriah Wilcox, and Davis Carter. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 21, 1828.
