Enslaved Persons Named: Nancy, Jim

On May 6, 1828, Liberty County Sheriff Benjamin Mell, Liberty County, sold to Alexander Stewart, same place, for $341 “two negro slaves, viz. Nancy and Jim.” Witnessed by J. Mell, Q. Way. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 7, 1828. Sheriff Mell had seized Nancy and Jim and put them up for sale at public auction at the Liberty County courthouse in Riceborough after the administratrix Matthew Lindon’s estate had obtained a judgment against the executors of Thomas F. Bacon’s estate, to which Nancy and Jim had belonged.
