On May 17, 1827, Ann S. Harris, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1700 to John D. Hathaway, also of Liberty County, “eight negro slaves, to wit, Sampson, and Rose and her six children, Prince, Ishmael, Ferdinand, Linda, Jim and Adam.” Witnessed by John B. Bacon, F.R. Whitwell. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 25, 1827.
