Enslaved Persons Named: Flora

On May 1, 1827, Liberty County Deputy Sheriff Edward Way put up at auction at the Liberty County courthouse in Riceborough a “female slave named Flora,” who he had seized from her home after Messrs Shepherd & Williams had obtained a judgment against her owner, Micajah Andrews. Way sold her to the highest bidder, Nathaniel Varnedoe, for $355, to satisfy Andrews’ debt. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 11, 1827.
