Enslaved Persons Named: Maggy, Ben, Joe, Robert

On March 26, 1825, John McGowen, wrote a promissory note of $600 to the Bank of Darien, for which William N. Way co-signed. To insure Way against loss for this, McGowen mortgaged to him “the following negro slaves, together with the future issue and increase of the female slaves; namely, Maggy & her three children, Ben, Joe and Robert.” Witnessed by Saml [Samuel] Lewis. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 30, 1825. [NOTE: Marked as satisfied as of August 19, 1833.]
