Enslaved Persons Named: Peggy, Susan

On April 5, 1825, Peggy and her child Susan were sold at auction at the Liberty County courthouse at Riceboro. Jesse Ham was the highest bidder, at $350. Peggy and Susan had been seized from their home by Liberty County sheriff Edward Way after Jas. [James] Fort had obtained a judgment against the estate of John Fulton in Superior Court, and were sold to satisfy the judgment. Way finalized the sale to Ham on June 29, 1825. Witnessed by Wm. [William] N. Way, Geo. [George] W. Walthour, W.Q. Baker. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on August 4, 1825.
