On January 1, 1824, W.E.W. Quarterman, Liberty County, used as collateral on two promissory notes totalling $275.50 to William Robarts “all those two negro slaves, named Dick & Mahalah.” Witnessed by Rob [Robert] P. Burton and Thos. [Thomas] J. Shepard. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 27, 1824.
