On November 22, 1823, William Hughes, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $464 to Uriah Wilcox, Liberty County, “a certain female slave named Bell [alt: Bella, Belle], & her son named Sam, & a certain other female slave named Lydia, together with the increase of the females.” Witnessed by E.S. Kempton, Rodney Pease. Signature probated by R. Pease on March 18, 1824. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 31, 1824.
