Enslaved Persons Named: Reuben
On August 2, 1815, John Brown, of Liberty County, and his wife Mercy Brown agreed between themselves, and her trustee Joseph Law, to a separation. John Brown agreed that his wife should keep everything put into trust for her at the time of their marriage or that she might become possessed of in the future. As such, she agreed to give up all claim to “a certain negro boy named Reuben,” formerly the property of John Brown, whom John Brown had made over to her in the marriage settlement. Witnessed by Joseph Law, Saml [Samuel] Lines, John Broughton. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 21, 182.
