Enslaved Persons Named: Big Stephen, Nanney, Hetty, Hannah

On September 20, 1837, Edwin H. Bacon, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $5000 to Augustus O. Bacon, Liberty County, “four negro slaves viz Big Stephen Driver, Nanney [alt: Nanny], Hetty & Hannah.” Also used as collateral was his 300-acre Oaklan [SIC, Oakland] plantation “in the desert” [an area in Liberty County] that was already mortgaged to Dr. R. Harris, and other land described by boundaries. Witnessed by S.W. Bacon, T.J. Bacon. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on November 3, 1837. [NOTE: Marked as satisfied as of February 11, 1845, per Sarah H. Bacon, guardian of A.O. Bacon, minor. Satisfaction recorded on March 3, 1845.]
