On December 23, 1835, James Martin, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $555 to John O. Baker, also of Liberty County, “two negro men, named Sezar [alt: Caesar] & Nelson…” Witnessed by William Hodges. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 23, 1836. [NOTE: Marked as satisfied in full as of April 25, 1836, by J.O. Baker. Satisfaction recorded on May 2, 1836.]
