On December 5, 1832, William Hughes, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1253.62 to George W. Walthour, also of Liberty County, “seven negro slaves, together with their future issue & increase: viz: Eve, Murriah, Big Affy, Edmund, Miles, Ishmael & Primus. Witnessed by N. Varnedoe, W.Q. Baker. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 4, 1833.
