Enslaved Persons Named: Lucy, Matilda

On June 9, 1831, Jonathan Gaulden, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $126 to Uriah Wilcox, a trader in Liberty County, “a certain female salve named Lucy, & her daughter named Matilda, together with their issue & increase.” Witnessed by Joseph Andrews, J.P. and recorded by E. Baker, Clerk, on June 10, 1831. Deed was marked as satisfied on January 12, 1837, and was recorded as such on January 14, 1837.
