Comments: Will and inventory filed in Chatham County Probate Court in May 1850. Sarah D. Fabian was said to be late of Chatham County. Witnesses to the May 2, 1839, will were Eliza Winn, E.H. Bacon, and Daniel Heidt. Her will did not name or mention enslaved people, but willed that her estate, both real and personal, be kept together until a sufficient sum of money was raised to purchase a scholarship to the Columbia Theological Seminary, and she hoped that her nephews might wish to pursue a career in the ministry and might use the scholarship. She also left her sister Rosina L. Minton a mortgage she had against Minton’s property, and gave the rest of her property to her three sisters, Francis A. Baker, Rosina L. Minton and Mary E. Way. The property for Rosina L. Minton was left in trust with John Dunwody; and Dunwody and William J. Way were appointed executors. Estate inventory performed on June 22, 1850.

NOTE: It appears that the enslaved people mentioned below may have been in Chatham County at this time, but Fabian had strong ties to Liberty County – she was the granddaughter of Mary Ann Ladson – and she had enslaved people who attended Midway Church, so it is likely that their origin was in Liberty County.
